Important Information - Regional Inpatient Care Facilty - Hospice Care

Hospice Care's Inpatient Center provides highly specialized acute care day and night for patients on a short-term basis, when:

• A home-care patient's symptoms become more than the team can manage at home.
• There is a need for a significant medication or dosage change and close monitoring is required. In addition to the Hospice Care Inpatient Center, Hospice Care serves patients and their families in private homes, at area nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and in many hospitals in Elkins and surrounding areas.

Hospice Care also provides grief and loss services to the community, including on-going counseling groups, one-time grief workshops, individual counseling, summer grief camp, and other resources and activities for adults, teens and children throughout the region.

Hospice Care's Inpatient Center is licensed by the State of West Virginia.

Paying for Services at the Hospice Care Inpatient Center

Medicare, Medicaid and many private insurance plans pay for short-term stays – including medications, medical equipment and supplies – at the Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center.

Generous community support enables us to help those without insurance or other resources.

Please talk to your social worker about any financial issues.

It is important to note that we are not licensed for long-term care; we can, however, help you find long-term care options for your loved one if needed.

Safety Guidelines

The safety and well-being of our patients are of the utmost importance – please adhere to the following guidelines regarding:

• Bed rails: Our policy and good judgment direct us occasionally to keep side rails up on patient beds. A release form is available from your nurse should you wish to keep the bed rails down.
• No Smoking: There is no smoking inside the Inpatient Unit at any time. Patients and guests may smoke outdoors in designated areas.
• Fire and Emergency Drills: The Hospice Care Inpatient Center routinely conducts fire and emergency drills. Do not be alarmed if a fire drill occurs – visitors will be asked to evacuate or stay in the room with their loved one. In the event of an actual emergency, staff will instruct you as to what you should do.

We provide hospice care to all who need it, regardless of their ability to pay for our services. To that end, we rely on the generosity of our community to help defray the costs of patients and families in need.
