Henny grew up in the Yakima Valley and met her husband through a friend at Perry Tech. She has been married 45 years and has two daughters and two granddaughters. For more than 25 years she and her husband owned Westside Electric where she ran the office and kept the books.
She has served as a hospice volunteer for nearly 10 years and considers her time with patients and their families as highlights of her life. “What excites me is when a patient looks forward to my coming,” said Henny. “For years I’ve cooked and watched cooking shows, so one of the things I love to do is work with patients who want to cook or have things homemade for them. One of my greatest joys is having patients be so positive about life and living. Through cooking I have made some wonderful relationship with patients and their families.”
This quote, from a Notes from Hospice blog post, highlights one of the many hospice care volunteers who is making a real difference in patient's quality of life.
Hospice Care of West Virginia was founded by volunteers, and these incredible people continue to fulfill vital roles throughout the organization. We currently have volunteers assisting in a variety of ways, including administrative assistance, fundraising, operating the Hospice Care thrift store, patient/family support, teaching or performing music and other classes, even maintenance and construction work!
