Admission Criteria
In order for a patient to be eligible for services offered through Hospice Care, s/he must:
- Be diagnosed with a serious illness
- Desire palliative (comfort measures) rather than curative treatment, and be a resident of Barbour, Braxton, Calhoun, Gilmer, Marion, Monongalia, Pocahontas, Preston, Randolph, Taylor, Tucker or Wetzel counties. Our service area also includes Southwestern PA.
- Make a referral. We take confidential referrals from community members, patients, and family. Anyone can contact us about someone who may benefit from our services.
- Physicians order required.
Reimbursement
- Hospice Care is licensed in West Virginia and Pennsylvania and is Medicare/Medicaid certified. Eligible patients may enroll in the Hospice Benefit, which covers all staff services, 100% of durable medical equipment, and 100% of the cost of medications related to the illness.
- Hospice services are also covered under most private insurance companies. Billing and insurance paperwork are handled by Hospice Care staff. When private insurance is not available, no one is refused service based on inability to pay.
- When Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance is not available, patients are billed according to a sliding scale. Memorial donations and local fundraising help to support these services.
